Meet the acts

Touch & Nato (The Representatives)

“From the land of the pickup truck and black rubber puck” comes two of the country’s brightest undiscovered hip hop talents. Touch (emcee) and Nato (producer/DJ), are destined to further prove to the nation that Edmonton’s hip hop scene is a force to be reckoned with.

Their debut album “Intelligent Design” is a textbook run-through of how to make a classic album: no filler- just a full course meal of raw and aggressive rhyming, neck-snapping beats and creative concepts. It’s a refreshing reminder of the potential hip hop has to push its own limits, rather than caving to the trend of formulaic radio-friendly jingles.

Touch is a pioneer in the Edmonton scene, performing with his crew Dangerous Goods Collective since the early ‘90s. His reputation as an incredibly detailed and intelligent lyricist has spread across the country through multiple tours. With grit comparable to Ras Kass or Saukrates and emotion similar to Ghostface Killah, he successfully pulls off a street-style that radiates heart and struggle.

Touch’s rhymes are perfectly matched on “Intelligent Design” with beats and cuts by Nato, who is quickly becoming known as one of the country’s premier producers. His north-Edmonton studio has been used by almost everybody in his city’s hip hop scene and beyond, including Wordsworth (Brooklyn, NY) and rising star Cadence Weapon, both of whom make guest appearances on “Intelligent Design”. Nato uses a variety of samplers, keyboards and live players to create his hard-hitting bangers.

Jinx

With no real advancement in the small, if not, non-existent world of hip hop throughout the city of Edmonton (a.k.a. EVille, E Town, The City of Champions), Jinx has been able to stay within the radar. Started his quest of self awareness at the age of 13 by writing lyrics. Not until moving to the city of EVille did this young "closet rapper" expose his skills to the public. Started a few crews, opened for a few local artists, but nothing seemed to materialize. So instead of trying to get his name out there, Jinx decided to lay low, develop exactly what it was he was trying to say, and hit em with a bang. Jinx is now sitting with a small fan base, a few dozen tracks, and a current album in the making.

Screwface Killa

Screwface in a literal translation from patois, means angry face and in deeper regions of Jamaica it is a reference to the devil. So to be the ScrewFaceKiLLA, when translated through an urban dictionary means devil killer. So take a journey inside the mind of ScrewFaceKiLLA and lay your own frown to rest.

Epic got into listening to rap last year. Since then he has become more sensible. His music is very post rap. Think of coldplay, mixed with El p. "damn homie, you use to be the man homie"

Harmoniah strongly believes in the power words have in shifting and creating the reality in which we live thus her rhymes are written in an affirmative way to facilitate such alchemy. She started out doing spoken word and picked up emcing about 2 and a half years ago. She has one E.P completed and is in the process of writing and recording a full length album. She has just returned from 6 months over seas as well as a break from the performing side of music. That said she is excited about rocking the M.I.C once again back in her home town J

Opus MC

Opus MC brings fire and passion to the stage with lyricism to inspire and provoke change. He has recently released his first full length Album “War On Thought” and is currently in the process of writing and recording two more albums to come later this year “Smile… Music” and a Canadian Crunk compilation “8 OPUS 8” Opus is a dynamic producer who loves to co create with other local artists creating a wide variety of diverse, rhythmic clever beats. Summer of 2007 he went on tour on the west coast of Canada, as well as playing various shows in Edmonton. He has just returned from Australia and New Zealand and is ready to bring this freshness to the stage.

Elle D'Lux

I'm 19 and been rapping for about four years. I've been trying to take a poetic and concious approach to an album that's about half done. I'm an emcee first and a girl second.

Well Put

Teddy/Well Put, I am a 20 year old rapper/singer/instrumental-make. Many local shows and a few festivals (local and in the U.S.) have happened. A cd (self-recorded and produced) was put out in June 2006 when I was 18 years old, it shows. Many new beats and songs and ideas are in the works but a new album drop date has not been slated yet. I am hoping to get signed to some sort of label which would provide me with the means to release some new music, as opposed to being overwhelmed with all that accompanies an independent release (although an independent release seems likely). For the most part I am hanging out these days performing when asked to do so, and working on new tunes, all of the time. If I saw you in person right now I would hurt your family.

Mikey Maybe

Mikey Maybe has two cats. One is named Dutchess and is pretty and the other is named Kingsley and has thumbs. Mikey likes making things like music and books. He hopes you don't hate him, but is emotionally prepared for the worst.

ME Lazerte Showcase

-Brianna Sampson will be singing accompanied by Tremayne Tyler on the piano. Brianna is a grade 11 student at M.E. Lazerte High School.

-Technique

-Shock Parliament

we consist of 2 people:
Eddie AKA E.Groove
and
Joey AKA P.Ease

Our group has been formed just recently. Joey has been dancing for about a year and a half, and Eddie has been dancing for about a year. Both dancers took part in M.E. LaZerte's Stomp the Atrium highschool dance competition. We ended up taking first place through a dance battle to decide the winner. We were initially inspired by Nam Hyun Joon, and then found inspiration in popping greats such as Mr.Wiggles.

Royalties Entertainment

Founded in 2003, Royalties Entertainment is a recording and performing partnership, co-created in whole, by Edmonton natives, and long time comerades, Doug Flett and Ken Hogue. Doug (Czin) and Ken (H-Bomb) have been writing and recording music for nearly a decade, in which they have performed at numerous events, in and around the prairies area.

In 2006, the Royalties Entertainment Duo released their first album, entitled “Royal Flush”, which was composed of songs that had been done with the numerous producers they have worked with over the years. The album itself features beat production from several of the areas top beat-makers, and the entire disc was recorded and mixed by Edmonton’s own R.J. Cui, CEO of one of Edmonton’s premier recording groups “Darkson Tribe”.

Following the massive Royalties Entertainment new years celebration for 2007, in which the two had thrown with the proceeds of their album thus far, disaster struck; the house burned down and most of the things in it. This is important because, rather than set the two back, it really focused the crew on projecting further on what they already had established, and take on some higher-profile work. There are a few Classified produced tracks set for the next album and they will be shooting their first professional video early 2008.

DJ Gun Shy

One of the creative forces behind the Wildstyle Wednesdays open mic extravaganza that has allowed Edmonton's finest emcees to shine. Mixing and cutting latest and old school hip hop, funk, breaks, and downtempo, Gun Shy got the beats to make yo' head bob.

Advokit

His production credits have included a complete album for the Calgary freestyle heavyweight Ricca Razor Sharp, an endless array of collaborations with fellow Audible Intelligence members, tracks for Virtue, Planit, Frantic Artillery, and the late Internal Affairs. The Omega Twins

A duo making music can be difficult when the parts come from different backgrounds... but fortunately this duo shares one mind. The Omega Twins consist of Edmonton hiphop mainstays Unkle Sam(MC/beatboxer) and J. Soul (MC/Producer), best friends and musical counterparts for nearly 15 years - making music crossing into multiple
genres under a number of different monikers. Formed out of the now defunct crew Hi-Calibre, The Omega Twins have regrouped and are in the process of making new sounds for their next LP. J. Soul has just returned from Toronto after the last 3 years, interning and engineering at studios like Metalworks and IC Visions, briefly working along side Mayhem Morearty's long-time producer Soze. He also earned a spot in Toronto's growing Boombox Saints collective as a DJ, and collaborated with canadian artists like Halifax's Fair One, who gave him the opportunity to work on a 12" release on Fat Beats called "Fame" featuring El Da Sensei of The Artifacts. Other collaborators include DJ Grouch, Notes To Self, DJ Dopey, DJ Mensa, Arowbe, Fundament, Rayhaan Quarishi, Junia T, LQuest, along with Detroit's Royce Da' 5'9" and D-Rick. Last November, Unkle Sam teamed with
Calgary beatboxer and long-time friend Shamik to join Method Man's 2007 Canadian tour, sharing the stage with the legendary Wu-Tang member as well as DJ Mathematics, Civalrings and Denmark MC Selah E'din. On top of all that, Unkle Sam and Shamik are set to release "Because The Biz Told Us To", Alberta's first all-beatbox LP which was
produced by J. Soul and ready for it's anticipated release this July on Ace Records. As 2008 moves forward, The Omega Twins are continuing to build on the reputation they have earned for an energetic live show which has been evolving for years, incorporating what they're known best for: dope beats, dope rhymes, and microphones drenched in saliva - especially if you take the stage after them.

'8 Mile', however, never released a sequel and Kaz has slowly been forced to have to make full length songs to further his rap career. He also makes beats, and is currently a part of the production duo SpaceBoy Spiff (KazMega & Dan Jones/Astro Boy).
